*Kevin D. Kinsey is on a mission to be the new Senior Vice Grand Polemarch for Kappa Alpha Psi. Kevin is a life member with over forty years of active service in the illustrious fraternal organization. Most recently he served as General Chair for Kappa Alpha Psi’s Centennial at UCLA.
The ceremonies culminated with the unveiling of a permanent marker in honor of the Upsilon Chapter at UCLA.
Kevin D. Kinsey is a man of affirmative action, leadership, and service. He was inducted into the Upsilon Chapter of UCLA in 1981.
He hit the campus young, ambitious, and seeking his community. As an only child, he needed brothers. He found them in Kappa Alpha Psi.
Their motto of achievement in every field of human endeavor has governed all facets of his life.
Brother Kinsey is girded by great faith and a profound love for helping others. For seventeen years he ran a home for transitional living, providing shelter, rehabilitation and resources for those needing a safe haven and a second chance.
During the holidays, Kevin opened his home in Ladera Heights for an annual Christmas party. Kevin was captivated by the story of one of the caterers. She was a foster mom who needed assistance for her children. Kevin immediately added purpose to the party and his Kappa brothers responded in grand style. All subsequent years required admission to the free event. The cost was a new toy.
The event became so popular that it had to be moved to a public venue. It has evolved into a toy drive that donates toys citywide. What’s unique is that this toy drive solicits gifts for older children, who are often forgotten during the holidays.
Kinsey is an L. A. native with full awareness of the needs of his city. Families in South LA were seeking greater support. Once again Kevin presented a call to action to the brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Psi. They responded with Men of Achievement, an initiative for young men who don’t have fathers in the home. The mentorship teams provide tools for education and empowerment, and in some cases teaches simple skills such as tying a tie.
With the recent Supreme Court decision on Affirmative Action, it’s more important than ever to have conscious leadership in every room where decisions are made. Kevin’s presence in the business sector means that there is someone in the room with executive authority to make sure that loans, grants, approvals and contracts are awarded to qualified applicants, who might be denied otherwise.
Kinsey was the only African American male in Loyola Marymount’s (LMU) pilot degree program in International Media. He harnessed that knowledge with high-level relationships in the entertainment business and founded Omni Media Holdings, a film finance, production, marketing, and distribution company. In the spirit of paying it forward, a Kevin D. Kinsey Endowment Scholarship has also been established at LMU for students who endeavor in this field.
Kevin specializes in task management, innovation, and team building. Via his association with 5120 Entertainment, Kevin Kinsey and CEO Gene Parker recently hosted a Hollywood Hills reception for California Lt. Governor candidate Fiona Ma.
Kinsey’s lifelong commitment to the Kappa principles has ushered the pathway to numerous leadership positions. He was the National Director of Organizational Effectiveness. He has also sat on the Grand Board Policy Committee and he was the 20th Western Province Polemarch for (7) seven consecutive terms, where he governed the largest land base province within the Fraternity with jurisdiction over nine states and two foreign countries South Korea and Japan.
Mr. Kinsey holds membership in three alumni chapters including the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter, (Charter) Member of the Beverly Hills-Century City Alumni Chapter, and the Carlsbad-Laguna-Temecula Alumni Chapter.
He is excited about carrying out Kappa’s legacy principles and setting forth new goals for the brotherhood while giving attention to the heart of Kappa from the highly esteemed elders to the eager new recruits.
Kappa Alpha Psi was founded in 1911 at the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Indiana in support of young men pursuing higher education in the wake of systemic racism and blatant discriminatory practices.
Kappa Alpha Psi was the second fraternity and the third Greek letter organization in the National Panhellenic Council, which is also known as the Divine Nine. Today the Kappas represent over 160,000 members worldwide and boast a body of professionals who have excelled in the public and private sectors.
Notable alums include the late Arthur Ashe, John Singleton, Robert Senstacke Abbott, and Reginald Lewis. Other famed Kappas include: The Honorable Tom Bradley, the Honorable Hakim Jeffries, Stan Lathan, John Marshall Jones, Montell Jordan, The Honorable Judge Kevin Ross, Colin Kaepernick, Cedric the Entertainer, and many more.
Kevin D. Kinsey is a living example of Kappa founder Elder Watson Diggs “the dreamer.” He is a family man and a relatable, passionate visionary who is not only living his dream, but he is making so many other dreams come true in the process.
