*After a college basketball career at the University of Louisville and more than a decade playing overseas, Taquan Dean is looking to impact the next generation of basketball players. Mr. Dean recently joined CYInterview for a segment with CYInterview sponsor Rob Gill. Both men talked about how they hope to use basketball to give today’s youth life-changing knowledge.
On why Taquan wants to help the next generation, he said this:
“The backstory is I had a 16-year career in Europe. And within that 16 years, I had nine different agents and I experienced the dark side of Europe for the first eight years of my career, which was not being paid on time, not being paid my contracts, being put in different countries where I didn’t get the best care. So, within my career, I always said when I was gonna retire, I was gonna help the next generation not experience what I went through because it’s not being talked about.”
Rob Gill shared what he learned from Taquan Dean after meeting him for the first time: “And the thing that stood out the most was the time he spent overseas, he discovered that the culture of basketball was team-oriented and fundamentals, which is what we lack here in the United States. As a matter of fact, we promote individuality.”
