Journalist Tanya Hart Receives the Inaugural Class Gold Circle Award at the 2023 Daytime Emmys

*Los Angeles – Journalist Tanya Hart received the 2023 Gold Circle Award at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy for her work as a TV Host/Producer and advocate of diversity.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Science (NATAS) announced the 2023 Gold and Silver Circle Honors on December 15 at the Daytime Emmy broadcast on CBS.  The inductees are professionals who have performed distinguished service within the television industry, setting standards for achievement, mentoring, leadership, and professional accolades for 50 or 25 years, respectively.  This year’s class is:

Gold Circle

  • Tanya Hart, Host / Producer, Entertainment News
  • Wendy Riche, Producer, Daytime Drama
  • Al Schwartz, Producer, Specials
  • Vernée Watson, Performer, Daytime Drama

Silver Circle

  • Christina Knack, Production Coordinator, Daytime Drama
  • Patrick Weiland, Producer, Lifestyle

In addition, Tanya was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Hall of Fame last summer during their annual convention in Las Vegas.

Broadcast and Streaming maven Tanya Hart’s storied career spans several decades. As a Host/Producer, she has garnered several industry accolades for her Documentaries and Docu-Series, including an Oscar nomination, a Peabody Award, an Ohio State Award, and many more. In the world of syndication, Hart is credited along with Western Syndication for bringing music competition shows to prime-time television with Live in Hollywood with KiKi Shepard. Hart is currently seen in the highly-rated Docu-series Dear Mama, streaming now on HULU. Tanya Hart’s production company Flying Free Films recently co-produced The Birth of a Black Movie Hero (a film about Melvin Van Peebles), currently streaming on SHOWTIME, and The Longest Walk: The Story of Charles Burrell now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and TUBI.  Her company also produced Tanya Hart Sings and Ray Charles: The Music Lives, both of which have been streaming on Apple, Spotify, and other audio streaming platforms for the past decade.  Tanya is one of the producers of Invisible Eagles: Bessie Coleman, the scripted podcast series produced by American Urban Radio Networks and Flying Free Films and presented by AARP, which has been receiving 5-star ratings and rave reviews since its debut on Apple, Spotify, Google, and other streaming audio platforms in October of 2023.  Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhane Wallis stars as Bessie Coleman in this episodic podcast series.

Tanya served as Co-Host with the late Roger Ebert, covering the Academy Awards for ABC-TV. Hart also appeared as herself in the iconic daytime TV series, “All My Children.”  For six years, Tanya Hart served as correspondent and alternate host of E! Entertainment’s The Gossip Show, which was seen worldwide in 140 countries. For several seasons, Hart was a regular contributor on The Geraldo Rivera Show. In addition, her company produced entertainment news segments for the program. Hart’s company created several national media campaigns for the US Centers for Disease Control, including “Act Against AIDS.”  The Company also partnered with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the NAACP, and AURN to produce the national “Readers are Leaders” campaign. Hart has a daily Podcast/Video program on American Urban Radio Networks, Hollywood Live with Tanya Hart.   Hart was based at the Walt Disney Studio lot from 1992-1995, where she developed and produced films, television programs, and music with Boston International Records, Hollywood Records, and Touchstone Pictures.  In 1990, Tanya built out BET’s West Coast studio and launched that cable network’s first shows, including “Live from LA with Tanya Hart,” where she interviewed major celebrities of the day in over 300 episodes.  Prior to joining BET Tanya worked in the Boston television market.  Hart was the first broadcaster in that market to have a show based on women’s issues, Womankind, and was a producer for award-winning children’s TV series Call It Macaroni and Rebop. Her long-running magazine program Coming Together on WBZ-TV garnered 8 Emmy nominations, winning four. In 2016, Tanya was elected as co-chair of the Caucus for Producers, Writers, and Directors, the first woman and first African American to hold this position. Tanya has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus from Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts & Sciences. Hart also has a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.  Tanya Hart resides in Los Angeles with her family.
