*“Spinning Gold” tells the story of Casablanca Records, the real-life independent record label that rose to fame in the 70s while launching the careers of Donna Summer, Kiss, and more. The film features Grammy-nominated writer and actress Tayla Parx in the role of Summer. Parx is a former child actor who starred in the 2007 movie musical, “Hairspray.”
Parx went on to write top 10 hits for artists like written songs for some of the biggest names in the music business—Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Saweetie, and more. She talks exclusively with EUR about portraying the disco-era icon.
Parx said that although she was familiar with the music from some of the film’s stars, she had no prior knowledge of this story. She explained, “that made me extremely interested in the project in general. I was able to be a fan of music again in a very different way. We have the honor of having these stories that were passed down to Tim (Bogart, the film’s director and son of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart) from his dad. So we learned about artists that have been around for decades in a fresh light.”
Parx added that there are several parallels between herself and Summer – whose first hit came in 1975 with “Love to Love You Baby” at the age of 26.

She explained, “I was shocked that she was a singer-songwriter, which is not discussed much, and also an actress in “Thank God it’s Friday.” I started off doing musicals and things like that.
“There were so many parallels that I was honestly just honored to be able to learn about her and to be able to say, Hey, I see how someone like Donna paved the way for someone like me,” Parx concluded
