Shaun King’s Instagram Account Banned for Supporting Palestinians

Shaun King

*Controversial activist Shaun King had his Instagram account banned because he supports Palestinians amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

In the days leading up to the ban, King informed his 5 million followers that Meta staffers warned him about insiders seemingly creating new rules for the Meta-owned platform that could be used against King for violating the terms of service.

“The account was disabled due to multiple instances of praise for designated entities in violation of our policies,” a Meta spokesperson said, NBC News reports.

King released a statement on his Facebook page claiming he was banned for “fighting for Palestine.”

“I am told by my sources inside of Meta that they are tracking my IP address and will delete anything I say anywhere I say it,” King wrote on Facebook, also owned by Meta.

“I formally appealed the night of the suspension, but have also now retained attorneys to proceed with the Civil Rights Division of the legal team at Meta,” King told NBC News.

King used his IG platform to document the plight of innocent Palestinians within Gaza and the West Bank.

“I refuse to betray my values and principles by staying silent about this genocide and the war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank,” he wrote in his Facebook statement.

“You can NEVER mince words about genocide. You can never mince words about war crimes. ⁣You MUST speak truth to power every way you know how,” King added.

“Frustrated that Instagram has banned me for fighting for Palestine, and speaking up for the human rights and dignity of Palestinians,” King wrote.

Several social media platforms are being scrutinized over their moderation policies when it comes to users supporting Palestine.
