*Spice Girl Melanie “Mel B.” Brown is seeking primary custody of the daughter she shares with her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte. She also wants the court to order him to submit to random drug tests.
According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Brown details her “serious concerns about Stephen’s ability to care” for their 11-year-old daughter, Madison.
Belafonte currently has majority custody of the child and they live in Los Angeles. Madison travels to the UK to visit her mother and sisters. Belafonte is seeking to move to Miami and he recently asked the court for permission to relocate with Madison.
Brown responded to his request in newly filed documents and she wants Madison to live with her 80% of the time and Belafonte 20% of the time, per Radar.
“Madison’s sisters, Angel and Phoenix, relocated with me to the U.K. where we live minutes from nearly all of our friends and family. Moving to the U.K. without Madison was devastating for the girls and me. The three girls have always had a very close relationship and enjoy spending time together. Madison would thrive socially, emotionally, and academically if she were permitted to live with me and her sisters in the U.K. during the school year,” Brown wrote, according to Radar.
“I am confident that Madison’s best interest would be served if she lived primarily in the U.K. with her sisters and me,” she said.
“I have serious concerns about Stephen’s ability to care for Madison in a manner consistent with her best interests. Stephen continuously attempts to alienate Madison from her sisters and me,” Brown said, Radar reports.

Brown claims she was granted primary custody of Madison after her 2017 divorce. But when her work visa expired in 2019 she had to return to the UK. Madison has since lived with Belafonte in the U.S.
According to Radar, Brown said her ex “lacks transparency with respect to Madison’s living conditions, doctors’ appointments, therapy, and schooling.”
The global superstar also noted that Belafonte “refuses to co-parent with me,” and she wants him to be required to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.
Brown and Belafonte wed in 2007 until their divorce was finalized in 2017.
