Eddie Murphy & Director Reginald Hudlin Reunite for Christmas With ‘Candy Cane Lane’ | WATCH

*According to the plot, “Candy Cane Lane,” directed by Reginald Hudlin, is a festive escapade, with Eddie Murphy taking center stage!

The holiday comedy follows Chris Carver (Murphy), a man striving to clinch victory in his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest.

Little does he know that a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) becomes an unexpected ally after an unwitting deal. As Pepper’s magical spell brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life, chaos ensues throughout the town.

In a race against time, Chris, alongside his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis-Ross) and their three children, must navigate a whimsical yet perilous journey to break Pepper’s enchantment, confront deviously magical characters, and ensure Christmas is saved for everyone.

EUR talked with director Reginald Hudlin about reconnecting with Murphy, who he directed in the Black rom-com classic Boomerang, and about the chemistry between Murphy and Ellis-Ross.

Hudlin said the film came along at the perfect time in their lives, “it’s easy peasy because that’s where we both are in our lives. The same way that we were both being young and single in New York, you know, going to the clubs. Here we are, guys with families trying to deliver an awesome Christmas. So this is the right movie for us,” explained Hudlin.

The director liked working with an A+ cast and extending Christmas was one of the highlights of this project.

“It’s so inspiring to watch the way Eddie and Tracy just had that instant chemistry with each other, as a couple, as parents, as people facing these fantastic encounters,” said Hudlin. “The amazing kids in the cast and how they could hold their own, working with people like Eddie and working with incredible visual effects and production design. The whole thing was magic. And something about working on a Christmas movie where, you know, for a month, we extended Christmas, so every day was Christmas for us. And it was just joyous,” shared Hudlin.

The film also stars Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, D.C. Young Fly, Riki Lindhome, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Lombardo Boyar, Danielle Pinnock, Timothy Simons.

Candy Cane Lane” will be available to stream starting December 1 on Prime Video.
