*Charlie Wilson showed up and showed out during his recent takeover of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and Black Twitter remains shook.

During the 30 minute blessing, the Oklahoma native ran through the peaks and valleys of his journey thus far, from his start with The Gap Band in the 70s and 80s alongside his brothers Robert and Ronnie, through his reemergence in the 90s through hip hop artists like Snoop Dogg, who gave him the nickname Uncle Charlie.

Accompanied by a handful of musicians and background singers, Wilson ran through six of his biggest hits, as well as the 1985 Zapp classic, “Computer Love,” telling the crowd that he didn’t think many fans knew that he was featured on the song.

Wilson took everyone to church on “I’m Blessed.” In what Black Twitter has deemed a whole “praise break,” he began thank God for bringing him through a series of life setbacks, including substance abuse and homelessness.

“It’s charlie wilson having a praise session in the middle of his tiny desk for me,” tweeted one fan.

As NPR put it, “Wilson has been hip-hop’s secret sauce for decades.” The outlet asked him to explain why he’s such a draw in hip-hop. His response: “I can sang!”
