‘Abbott Elementary,’ ‘Wakanda Forever,’ Angela Bassett and Will Smith Win Big At NAACP Image Awards | WATCH

*Another NAACP Image Awards, which emanated from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium Saturday evening, is in the books. The Queen Latifah-hosted event showed love for the best in Black entertainment and culture in 2022.

The award show, however, doesn’t just honor Black performers. This year Latin/Hispanic actor Tenoch Huerta Mejía won Best Supporting Actor for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which also won Outstanding Motion Picture.

But wait! “Wakanda Forever” was also the reason Angela Bassett won Best Supporting Actress. Don’t be surprised if she takes home an Oscar as well next month.

To say Bassett had a good night would be an understatement.

Obviously feeling good, Bassett couldn’t help but have some fun with the line Ariana DeBose famously rapped about her at the BAFTA Awards last weekend.

“I guess Angela Bassett did the thing!” Bassett said, to cheers.

She also went home with an award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role in “9-1-1.” Another “Best” went to Will Smith who won Best Actor for his “Emancipation” role.
