*More than 15,000 MSNBC viewers (and counting) have signed the PCCC’s petition to MSNBC urging the network to save Mehdi Hasan’s network and Peacock shows – which can be viewed and signed at StandWithMehdi.com.
Washington Post columnist Perry Bacon Jr. published an op-ed today entitled: MSNBC should be careful not to become DNC-TV. He wrote, “The cancellation of Mehdi Hasan’s show is the latest in a series of recent moves by MSNBC that are pushing the network in the direction of being the television arm of the Democratic Party leadership, as opposed to a news outlet that upholds left-wing values and perspectives. The network should reverse its decision on Hasan and make clear that it embraces progressive criticism of President Biden and other Democratic leaders.”
The PCCC’s petition, which was launched last Thursday, was endorsed over the weekend by former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, who urged his followers to sign – joining Representative Maxwell Frost, who Tweeted on Thursday, “I just signed this petition and you should too!”
The Nation highlighted the petition’s momentum over the weekend, following prominent coverage from the Washington Post and Politico last week.
These prominent media, cultural, and political leaders have also criticized MSNBC’s decision:
- Bipartisan congressional voices like former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh, and Reps. Maxwell Frost, Ayanna Pressley, and Ro Khanna
- Major media voices like the NYT’s Jonathan Swan, NYU Journalism Professor Jay Rosen, and Bulwark Editor-in-Chief Charlie Sykes
- Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill
- Former Obama speechwriter Tommy Vietor
- Former NAACP President Sherrilyn Ifill
