*There’s a fake mugshot photo of Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock circulating social media, and it comes a week before he will face off against Republican Herschel Walker in a runoff election on December 6, 2022.
Warnock has an arrest record but according to VineSight, a firm that uses artificial intelligence to highlight misinformation online, the mugshot being shared online of the Democratic senator is a digital fabrication.
“With JPEG images, the entire picture should be at roughly the same level. If a section of the image is at a significantly different error level, then it likely indicates a digital modification,” says image analysis tool FotoForensics on its website.
According to Yahoo, Nir Hauser, chief technology officer and co-founder of VineSight, confirmed that the viral mugshot of Warnock “shows a clear manipulation (and is visibly blurred in the original image).”

Hauser added: “The text in the image also shows manipulation.”
The mugshot is dated July 31, 2002, when Warnock was detained in Maryland for allegedly interfering with a child abuse investigation at a church camp where he served as pastor.
It was later noted by the attorney general’s office in Carroll County that the arrest was due to “miscommunication” and the charges against Warnock were dropped, The Baltimore Sun reported.
Warnock was arrested two other times in 2014 and 2017 for reportedly protesting health care policies.
One Twitter user said of the fabricated mugshot: “I’m all for reporting and exposing fact. But this is so obviously photoshopped it makes us look bad. There’s plenty of bad stuff out there without having to manufacture it.”
Another commented, “Although I don’t think very highly of the so called reverend I think this is photoshopped.”
A third added, “I’ve seen better photoshop jobs done by children.”
