Freeway Shooting Victim in California Fights for Her Life, Father Speaks Out | Video

*A California woman was shot in the head while driving on the 101 Freeway over the weekend and now her father is speaking out as he fights for justice.

“She had got off work, she went home, she got dressed and she was driving to the valley to visit a couple friends,” said Robert Newt, the father of the 26-year-old victim Ronni Newt.

As CBS News reports, Ronni was driving along the northbound lanes of the 101 in Tarzana on Dec. 17 when multiple shots were fired at her vehicle, one of which struck her in the head. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m., when Ronni was driving near the White Oak Avenue off-ramp. She reportedly crashed her vehicle moments after being shot and was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.

The young woman is currently on life support and the gunman remains at large.

“As a father, as a parent, I pray all the time that this would never happen,” Robert said.

The family remains hopeful that members of the public will come forward with information that will lead to the arrest of the shooter(s).

“Doctors told us she probably wouldn’t make it through the night,” Newt said. “She did. She’s a fighter.”

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting incident, CBS reports.

“No one is saying, ‘It’s this color car, it’s that kinda make of a car, or you know, that they saw anything,” he said. “We know this stuff happens. We all casually drive on the freeway and we see things. If you saw something — please call.”

Meanwhile, a slight increase in Ronni’s brain activity has reportedly been observed in recent days.

“As long as she’s fighting, we’re praying. We’re all fighting together,” her father said.
