*U.S. District Judge Esther Salas was assigned the Deutsche Bank/Jeffrey Epstein civil case less than a week ago.

Her husband and 20-year-old son, Daniel Anderl, were shot Sunday evening by a gunman dressed as a FedEx driver. Son died, husband is in critical condition.

Coincidence?

The alleged gunman is men’s rights activist Roy Den Hollander, who has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to multiple outlets, including CNN, ABC, and the New Jersey Globe.

As noted by PEOPLE, Anderl was fatally shot while his father, attorney Mark Anderl, was injured during the shooting in the family’s North Brunswick Township home. Judge Salas was in the basement at the time of the shooting.

“She had some high-profile cases, and she was always a little concerned,” said one of Salas’ neighbors, Marion Costanza, adding of the family, “There’s no one like them. They’re extremely good-natured. They would do anything for anyone.”

Salas is the first Hispanic woman to serve on a federal bench in New Jersey. She has been in her position for nine years, since her nomination by former President Barack Obama.

Her famous cases include the financial fraud case of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Teresa and Joe Giudice.

Salas was unharmed in the shooting Sunday. Her 63-year-old husband reportedly underwent surgery at a New Brunswick hospital and remains in critical but stable condition, per New York Daily News.

A motive for the attack remains unknown.

Hollander reportedly “had terminal cancer and a long history of failed anti-feminist lawsuits,” per NYDN.

He was found dead in Rockland County, New York, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
