*Organizers of the Republican National Convention gathered a handful of Black speakers (and one Black Democrat) Monday night to challenge widespread accusations that President Trump is an unabashed racist.

They argued that 45 has made progress on criminal justice reform, and that Black communities, before the pandemic, had historically low unemployment rates.

None mentioned the ongoing protests over systemic racism, but most said that Democrats have enacted decades of failed policies and it’s time to give the GOP and its leader a shot by backing Trump for president.
