*Rickey Smiley’s daughter Aaryn is speaking out about her road to recovery after being caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Houston over the weekend.
The 19-year-old explained on social media earlier this week that she was hit in the leg by a hollow tip bullet and another bullet failed to penetrate the metal frame of her car, per MadameNoire.
“I could’ve lost my life yesterday,” she wrote. “If it was another hollow tip bullet and the metal didn’t stop it from coming into the car where my head was I would be dead.”
Aaryn, who celebrated her birthday days before the shooting, shared more details about the harrowing experience on her father’s morning radio show on Thursday (July 9).
“I’m okay. I’m happy to be alive. I’m just happy to be here,” she said.

Aaryn confirmed earlier reports that she and her boyfriend were out to grab food when they were stopped at a red light and another vehicle pulled up alongside them and started shooting.
Their vehicle was not the target, but Aaryn noted “clearly their aim wasn’t top tier because I got hit.”
“The car in front of us got hit,” she said. “I think there was a car behind that also got hit.”
Aaryn didn’t realize she got shot in the leg until her boyfriend pointed it out.
“It was hot and it was quick,” she said. “I looked down, and I was gushing blood. I didn’t know I had been shot in my left leg only because it had went straight through and the bullet had only stayed in my right leg. I was trying to put as much pressure as I could.”
At the hospital, she required a blood transfusion, and doctors informed her that she has PTSD as a result of the near fatal incident.
“Loud noises or popping sounds make me cry. I get panic attacks way easier,” she wrote. “The mental aspect of all this is really scary. Hopefully my mental increases with my physical!!!!!”
