*Following recent reports about the “rigged” Grammy nominations process, a surprising number of Black folks won awards at the ceremony Sunday night, including Lizzo and Tyler, the Creator.
The 2020 Grammys went down at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Sunday night, hours after news broke about the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, in a helicopter crash.
Lizzo walked into the event with eight Grammy nominations and took home three trophies.
While accepting the award for “Truth Hurts,” she noted how quickly her life can changed upon .
“I just wanna say this whole week … I be lost in my problems, stressed out and then in an instant, all of that can go away and your priorities really shift,” she said while accepting the award for “Truth Hurts,” adding: “And today, all of my little problems that I thought were big as the world are gone and I realize that there’s people hurting right now.”
She ended her speech with some words of wisdom.
“Let’s continue to reach out, hold each other down and lift each other up,” she said. “God bless you, thank you so much.”

18-year-old Billie Eilish was visibly shocked that she swept in all four of the biggest categories and Lil Nas X won in two of the six categories he was nominated.
Tyler the Creator won the best rap album prize, and when accepting his trophy, he said he had “never fully felt accepted” in the rap music community.
Jaden Smith celebrated Tyler’s big win with a tweet that said “My Boyfriend Just Won A Grammy.”
Smith first referred to Tyler the Creator as his boyfriend in November 2018, but a source told PEOPLE he was just “trolling”
