Johnny Britt Serenades on ‘Loving You’ the 1975 Minnie Riperton Classic for Valentine’s Day – WATCH

Los Angeles, CA – This February, Valentine’s Day, is going to sound oh so sweet for music romantics worldwide with the release of Johnny Britt’s velvety-smooth rendition of Minnie Riperton’s timeless standard “Loving You.”

The singer produced, arranged and plays an array of instruments on “Loving You” including, fender rhodes, acoustic piano, strings, flute, and programming. He also arranged and sings on all background vocals.  The song features Josh Britt on acoustic guitar.  Father and son duo are joined by percussionist Sean J. Lawson.

“This is a very special moment for me because I am joined on acoustic guitar by my 21-year-old son, Josh Britt, who will be graduating from the Berklee College of Music in Boston this spring in Film Scoring.  I’ve always loved Minnie Riperton as an artist and especially “Loving You”.  There has never been a male vocalist to cover this great classic– so I thought it would be a wonderful experience to do my own interpretation, of the song.”

“Loving You” is the fourth song released from Johnny’s chart-climbing 2019 summer album “So Hot.”  Originally released from Riperton’s second studio album “Perfect Angel” (1975); “Loving You” went certified gold and hit number one on the U.S. charts.  The song written by Minnie and husband Richard Rudolph, produced by Rudolph and Stevie Wonder, was released as the album’s fourth single, on March 14, 1975 – 45 years ago.

Last summer, Britt released his third original single “Hot Fun In The Summer” featuring Najee which was quickly put in heavy rotation by Sirius XM Radio Watercolors Channel 66. The song rose to #6 on the BDS Contemporary Smooth Jazz Charts and is still in rotation nationwide.

Early on, Britt immersed himself as an R&B vocalist and a jazz trumpet player, meeting the artform icons and legends while studying diligently to become a classically trained jazz trumpeter at The Versailles Conservatory (just outside Paris, France). Britt has written 3 number 1 Billboard Hit Singles for Boney James and has also written for the Motown legends The Temptations, Peabo Bryson amongst others.  Britt was hired by (founding member) Otis Williams to be the youngest ever musical director for The Temptations. This led to Britt becoming the co-music producer for the Emmy-award winning miniseries “The Temptations.”

Johnny landed a record deal with the Motown/Mojazz label for a forward-thinking project he created called Impromp2 that blended hip hop, soul and jazz, releasing four albums.  The artist debuted as a solo artist with his album “Feels So Good.”  He cites his greatest trumpet influence as Miles Davis and patterns his vocal delivery after Marvin Gaye, leading to the critically hailed release of “Marvin Meets Miles.” Britt’s latest album release is “So Hot” which “Loving You” is from that collection.  Either as a trumpeter or vocalist, Johnny Britt has collaborated with Quincy Jones, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Josh Groban, Jennifer Lopez, and Maxwell. He played a trumpet solo on screen in “La   Land” in a scene with Ryan Gosling and was the trumpet soloist on Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack to “Hidden Figures.” Britt sang on the Academy Awards telecast with John Legend, Common and Mary J. Blige. Britt also appears in “My Name Is Dolomite” as a trumpet player which stars Eddie Murphy and is also on Creed II as a singer on the score, of the movie.
