*Dr. Ala Stanford and other African American doctors in Pennsylvania (mostly women) have launched the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium to bring free mobile coronavirus testing to underserved communities in hopes of preventing further spread, reports WHYY.
Initially, Stanford, a pediatric surgeon, created and uploaded a video trying to dispel the myth that African Americans couldn’t get COVID-19. But some ini the community were worried that even if they had the virus, they wouldn’t be able to get tested.
That’s when Stanford decided to form Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium with her colleagues in the medical field and the assistance of black churches in Philly. With testing kits on hand, Stanford and the other doctors “put our supplies together and we went out to the community,” she told WHYY.

The Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium launched a GoFundMe hoping to fund more COVID-19 testing, advocacy, and to educate black people about the coronavirus. It has so far raised more than $25,000 of its $50,000 goal.
