*A GoFundMe page set up by George Floyd’s brother Philonese has more than surpassed its $1.5 million goal, raising more than $14 million (as of this posting: 06-13-20) to pay for the family’s travel and legal expenses.
A second page set up by an attorney for the mother of George Floyd’s daughter, reached its own goal of $1.5 million, Business Insider reports.
The money will support George Floyd’s family and his children.
“As a community, we want to come together in this time of need and assist Gianna’s mother, Roxie Washington, by donating whatever we can to help provide mental and grief counseling for George Floyd’s youngest child, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and to assist Roxie [Gianna’s mother] in providing for their child’s continued well-being and education,” attorney Tiffany Lee said.

“Our hearts are overwhelmed!” Philonise wrote in reaction to the generous donors who contributed to the campaign.
“This fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and to assist our family in the days to come as we continue to seek justice for George. A portion of these funds will also go to the Estate of George Floyd for the benefit and care of his children and their educational fund,” he said on the campaign page.
George Floyd’s younger sister, Bridgett, also launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,000 to help pay for her traveling and other expenses related to his memorial. Once the campaign raised over $377,080, she deactivated it and is no longer accepting donations.
We reported earlier, Tiffany Haddish was invited to the Minneapolis memorial of George Floyd earlier this week, and said she experienced a torrent of emotions that took her back to growing up and witnessing murders in Los Angeles.
During an interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the comedian said it was important for her to be there because she’s witnessed people being killed in front of her as a teen in South Central. She expressed feeling helpless as a bystander who could do nothing to stop them. “So I wanted to be there in support of the family because I understand how they feel.”
Haddish also spoke about her thoughts after Rev. Al Sharpton called her to the front along with the mother of Eric Garner. “I was crying so much. Tears not just for Floyd, but for all of those people that passed away, all of my friends and my family members that are locked up. It was just like all the tears that I ever wanted to cry were coming out. I was trying to swallow them.”
