*A small group of naked and semi-naked protesters sat outside the Rochester Public Safety Building on Monday with mesh bags over their heads in silent protest against the death of Daniel Prude, who died following a police encounter during which officers placed a “spit hood” over his head.
Their demonstration followed the peaceful gathering at that same location by 1,000 people Sunday night that saw no injuries or arrests. The lack of confrontation was attributed to the presence of community elders, and leaders from the Black Lives Matter movement said Mayor Lovely Warren and the Rochester Police Department in separate statements.
The mayor also said the outcome was the result of an edict she had given the chief and the force to adopt a smaller and more restrained posture towards protesters.
