Aaron Hernandez’s Fiancée Urges Supporters to ‘Take Time Away’ from Social Media Amid Release of Netflix Documentary

Shayanna Jenkins-court

*Aaron Hernandez‘s former fiancée Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez is speaking out about the new Netflix documentary “Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez.”

The three-part doc chronicles Hernandez’s life, leading up to his arrest for murder and suicide in prison in 2017.

On Thursday, Jenkins-Hernandez, 30, addressed the project in a message on Instagram

“I wanted to let all of you sweet sweet souls know I have tried to read every message sent on IG and through email (positive and negative),” she wrote. “The amount of support and positive energy is again unreal! I’m sure you will all understand how imperative it is to take some time away from social media.”

The mother of two captioned the post with the hashtag “#stayhumble.”

Hernandez is the father of Jenkins-Hernandez’s eldest daughter, Avielle, whom they welcomed in 2012. The couple became engaged that same year, but never married.

As noted by PEOPLE, on the date of the documentary’s release, Jenkins-Hernandez shared an inspirational quote on Instagram.

“Never forget how far you’ve come,” the quote read. “Everything you have gotten through. All the times you have pushed on even when you felt you couldn’t. All the mornings you got out of bed no matter how hard it was. All the times you wanted to give up but you got through another day. Never forget how much strength you have developed along the way.”

We previously reported… in 2015, Hernandez was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd—the boyfriend of Shayanna’s sister. He was subsequently charged (and later acquitted) of a separate 2012 Boston double homicide, and accused of the near-fatal 2013 shooting of his friend Alexander Bradley, per The Daily Beast.

Hernandez was allegedly in a lot of pain prior to his death; suffering from childhood trauma and other personal issues, including “conflicting feelings over the death of a man he claimed had abused him,” PEOPLE writes.  He also didn’t get along with his mother, Terri, and allegedly struggled with his sexuality.

Hernandez’s older brother told PEOPLE in a 2018 interview that the athlete suffered physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

“He had a lot of things happen, both good and bad,” Jonathan Hernandez said. “People think they know about my brother, but they really don’t. They know what they saw in the news, but they don’t know all the struggles he faced.”
