Kenyan Pastor Kills Wife During Sunday Service, Slits Own Throat in Battle Over Church

Elijah Misiko

*A Kenyan pastor stabbed his wife to death and slit his throat during service on Sunday in what reports claim was a dispute over church ownership.

Elijah Misiko, the assistant pastor of Ground for God’s Gospel Church (GGGC) in Mombasa, Kenyan, approached his wife, senior pastor Ann Mughoi, in the pulpit and stabbed her with a knife he had hidden in an envelope, Complex reports. He then turned his murder weapon on himself, and slit his own throat.

“He walked up to his wife while the church was praying as if he wanted to whisper something to her.” Mombasa sub-county police commander Julius Kiragu described. “Then he took one of the knives and stabbed her [wife] two times. He believed she was dead. He then stabbed himself three times in the stomach and slit his throat.”

Misiko died on the scene while Mughoi passed at a nearby hospital a few hours later.

Misiko was reportedly arrested in 2017 after Mughoi accused him of trying to kill her. He was later released after proving her claims to be false.

The couple, who have four children together, had been estranged for two years as they battled over ownership of the church they founded together.

“She had been trying to stay away from the husband since the dispute over the ownership of the church began,” Kiragu said. “They had even reported the matter to church leaders but they were unable to resolve the dispute.”

Misiko left behind a 17-page suicide note in which he accused Mughoi of changing ownership of the church so that only her name is on the property.
