*The Golden State Warriors just didn’t have enough to get the job done, but the Toronto Raptors did and that’s why they are the new NBA Champions.
Not only are the Raptors the champs now, but they made history twice in the process. You see, by defeating the Warriors in the NBA finals, they won their first championship and the nation of Canada wins its first-ever NBA championship.
“Canada, we brought it home,” Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry said after it was over.
Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals was close from start to finish, but in the end, it was the Raptors over the Warriors 114-110. Not only was it the last game of the 2019 N BA season, it was also the last NBA game to be played at Oracle Arena. If you haven’t heard, the team is relocating across the bay to San Francisco and the newly-built Chase Center for the 2019-2020 season.
STEPHEN CURRY HAS WORDS FOR RAPTORS FANS WHO PROFANELY TAUNTED HIS FAMILY
Kawhi Leonard, the Raptors small forward was named finals MVP for the second time; the last time was in 2014, when he helped lead the San Antonio Spurs to their 5th NBA championship for a win that denied the Miami Heat a threepeat just like tonight’s win denied the Warriors theirs. Leonard was traded to the Raptors in 2018.
“I wanted to make history here,” Leonard said. “A lot of people were doubting me. They thought I was faking an injury or didn’t want to play for a team. That was disappointing to me that it was out in the media. Going through that, I knew I had to make myself happy, and no one else, and I had to trust myself. It doesn’t matter what anybody has to say about me. I know who I am as a person and I know how I feel. I’m going to play the right way and not try to make headlines.”
