Tom Hanks is Mr. Rogers in First Trailer for ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’ [WATCH]

*The first trailer has dropped for “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, the host behind the iconic educational show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

As noted by USA Today, the Sony feature is based on a true story of a friendship that flourished between Rogers, who was known for his positivity, and journalist Tom Junod, played by Matthew Rhys.

The feature, directed by Marielle Heller, follows Junod as he profiles Rogers in the latter days of his career. Chris Cooper, Susan Kelechi Watson, Enrico Colantoni, and Maryann Plunkett co-star.

Rogers hosted “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” from 1968 to 2001, and died in 2003 after a battle with stomach cancer.

“We are trying to give the world positive ways of dealing with their feelings,” Hanks as Rogers says in the trailer. “There are many things you can do. You can play all the lowest keys on the piano at the same time.”

“Sometimes we have to ask for help, and that’s okay,” he adds. “I think the best thing we can do is to let people know that each one of them is precious.”

Filmmaker Morgan Neville, who directed the 2018 documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?,” said: “I think what he was trying to do is teach us how to be human. This new medium was coming, television. He recognized something from the moment he saw it, that many generations of children were going to be raised by this thing, and that somebody had to use that as a tool to help children.”

“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” hits theaters Nov. 22. Check out the trailer above.
