The Unthinkable Lives of So Many Black Boys: Where Are the Caring Adults?! – VIDEO

*What do you think is the minds of most black students in high schools? Is it the start of a new schooling year? Are they worried they’ll make the school soccer team? Are they going to be able to pass the driving test? Are they going to get into the Ivy Leagues? Well, according to what 3 Black students told – none of the above was true. Let’s have a look at the despair of black youth.

Simmons ‘AJ’ Morris

AJ was on the verge of beginning his high school senior year when he let us know some of his despairs. At this point of life, he had already lost 5 of his friends. Three of these had been sent off to prison, while two were killed. Since his freshman year till the time we spoke to him – he had been to about 13 funerals of people he had grown up with and now they had left him all alone.

“It’s hard to cope with it. It’s hard to—sometimes I cry all night, you know, and I ask God why.”

E’Darrius Smith

Smith was a wonderful soul and was a very talented artist while he was enrolled as a senior in Pearl-Cohn. He spoke of this one friend he had grown up with – one that he loved. He explained to us that he had met his fatal death when he tried to fight off a robber. The robber had shot him in the chest and it was probably the hardest time of his life. What’s more troubling though is what he had to say about the incident.

“Man, I sort of knew that was going to happen.”

Jermaine Simmons

Jermaine was another junior in Pearl-Cohn and had realized what the real despair of black youth was – they lived in the worst conditions; conditions where there was no one to help you. He also explained how their living conditions were such that it forced them to watch their back every other minute. After all, it wasn’t just the robbers that were going around shooting black youth.

“You don’t know [when] you’re going to get shot, you don’t know [when] you’re going to get stabbed . . . For some of us that is our reality.”

Who is to blame for what these 3 children are going through?
