And later rapper Wale visits to talk about his new album, Therapy Sessions, his new single, “BGM,” and why it’s so important to him to use the word “Black” in his song titles. He also shares about his experience being Black in America, the reason behind his album title, and reveals that he was stopped at the airport just yesterday.
Does Shane Gillis Getting Fired From SNL Violate His First Amendment Rights?
Adrienne Houghton: He has the right to his First Amendment, but I have the right to say you’re disgusting and wack and the things you said are not funny.

Adrienne: So I have the right to say That’s terrible, it’s not ok for you to make comments like that, it’s not ok for you to say jokes like that. And honestly, this was so eye-opening to me, because… this is called The Real, and I think it’s time for us to have real conversations about the conversations we have behind closed doors. And the things that we are saying and we need to check ourselves.

Adrienne: If someone was filming you… if someone was taping you and if tomorrow the audio came out of the private conversations that you have with your friends when you think you’re “hee hee” and “ha ha” and you think it’s funny – would you be proud of those statements if they were let out publicly? We need to start living our lives and checking our hearts and our minds and how we speak about other people and other races…

Adrienne: Within like that, yo, it’s out of control.
Loni Love: I just want to say the thing about Shane and white boys – I’m just gonna be direct – this is what they do. So they’re not thinking about –
Tamera Mowry-Housley: So they do this –
Adrienne: It’s not ok.
Loni: This is what they do. What you heard on that podcast? This is what they do. I’ve been a comedian a long time, I’ve been in a lot of comedy clubs…
Tamera: So they know what they’re saying is not right and they’re still saying it?
Loni: Yeah, they know exactly – they know exactly what they’re saying.
Adrienne: But that’s what I’m saying, and my issue is – that’s not ok.
Tamera: Yeah, that’s not ok.
Adrienne: And we can’t make it ok…

Loni: No, ok, I’m gonna disagree…
Adrienne: And we gotta let them know it’s not ok.
Loni: That is his right as an American; he has the right to say what he wants to say. You have the right not to –
Adrienne: Correct!Loni: – be a consumer of it!
Adrienne: I have the right to say I don’t think that’s ok!
Loni: And SNL. That’s what I’m saying. ‘Cause if we start censuring – ‘cause I can get up here and y’all be like, “I don’t like Loni in yellow, her ass too big!” Then what?

Loni: You see what I’m saying? It’s a difference.
Adrienne: It’s an opinion.
Loni: It’s an opinion. If you want to change people’s thoughts, then you gotta say why it’s hurtful. You have to explain why.
