THE REAL Welcomes Andrew Yang, Billy Gardell & Folake Olowofoyeku, and Guest Co-Host Jess Hilarious

*On Tuesday, Oct. 1, “The Real” welcomes in the month of October and welcomes back guest co-host comedian Jess Hilarious!

The ladies reveal if they could handle watching an ex get married and if their bad dancing embarrasses their children (or if they are humiliated by their own parents’ moves). Jess tries to help by teaching co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley how to floss!

And presidential candidate Andrew Yang visits to talk about his campaign and his “Freedom Dividend” plan.  He defends the funding behind this proposal, and also shares about his children and his favorite parts of the campaign trail!

Later, Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku stop by to chat about their new show Bob Hearts Abishola. Billy discusses the pre-show ritual that he has in common with the ladies of The Real and Folake reveals how excited she is for viewers to learn about Nigerian culture on the show.

Andrew Yang Will Defend The Funding Of His “Freedom Dividend” All The Way To The Supreme Court

Andrew Yang: It’s so much fun calling people to let them know that they just won $1000 a month for a year.  I’ve been making those calls over the last number of days, and people have cried tears of joy, people have been completely in shock and in disbelief, so it’s been a lot of fun. I’ve personally been giving families around the country $1000 a month for the last several months and seeing the change it’s had on their way of life and outlook and their family life, it just makes me want to do it for all Americans, which we can do!

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni Love: It’s called, it’s like, we do, we do something called The Hotline Bling, and we give away $500-$1000 and people feel real good about it.

Andrew Yang: Yeah, it’s like that.

Loni: It’s a very ambitious plan what you have Mr. Yang, but people are debating whether it’s legal, because the federal election laws say you cannot use campaign funds for personal use. So, it says that maybe you’re violating the law. What is your response to that?

Andrew Yang: Well, I’ve been given some of these families money out of my own pocket for a number of months, and you have to think about our system. If we raise a million dollars from donors, and I gave it to a media company for advertising, or to consultants or to pay a bunch of canvassers, everyone would say that’s A-OK. But if I simply give it to American families to improve their own lives, that’s somehow problematic – it’s kind of a ridiculous standard. Though I’m happy to say, it’s totally legal.

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: You think it’s totally legal.

Andrew Yang: Oh yeah, we have an army of expensive lawyers who signed off on it and said it’s totally legal.

Loni: You know they’ll take it to the Supreme Court, though.

Andrew Yang: Oh, I look forward to arguing that because we’re going to win.
