The Friends of Fuller Gordy Strikefest: A Motown Gordy Legacy Night to Remember

*Detroit, MI  – The Friends of Fuller Gordy Strikefest (FOF) event was a hit for Detroiters. On September 20, 2019, at Thunderbowl Lanes, the unique Gordy family legacy entertainment extravaganza premiered in Detroit, celebrated Motown’s 60th Anniversary, honored Motown Museum and highlighted numerous Motown alumni guests!

There are events, and there are events, and this was one that will be long remembered. Co-founders, former Motown Vice President, Iris Gordy and her daughter, Beverly Hills Television Host, Karla Gordy Bristol had planned to bring their successful, innovative, twelfth year Los Angeles event, which included unique evening experiences of diverse activities from bowling to Karaoke DJ Lounge and beyond, to Detroit for quite a while.

From the Strikefest Stage, guests enjoyed, Motown Legend Martha Reeves who shared personal career stories, then sang several of her Motown hits, including “Dancing In The Streets.”  Another Detroit native, Freda Payne, delighted the audience with jazz classics and her hit, “Band of Gold.” A Gordy family photo slideshow played throughout the evening, as Motown sounds resonated in the air.

All guests were treated like VIP’s, as they mixed and mingled with Motown alumni music greats, including, Brian Holland, of Holland, Dozier, Holland fame, music arranger Paul Riser, Sr. who later said, “Strikefest was the party to end all parties,” Claudette Robinson of The Miracles, Keith John, songwriter’s Ivy Jo Hunter, Allee Willis and Angelo Bond and Dion Williams with the Governors office. Original Motown Alumni were called to the stage and announced what they did at the company.

Family emotions ran high when, Gordy and Gordy Bristol presented Motown Museum CEO, Robin Terry with a beautiful award and also surprised her, by bringing famed artist, Ronald McDowell, onstage who presented a portrait featuring Berry Gordy, Esther Gordy Edwards and Mrs. Terry.

The relaxing Zen Lounge massage treatments, fun flipbook, silent auction with Motown and ten special Motown 60 themed items, which were signed at the event by numerous Motown Alumni and a remarkable Smokey Robinson package of his brand of wine, his concert tickets and a Meet & Greet with photo op and autograph.

West Side Unity Church member, Gary Blake, won Grand Champion Trophy and Most Strikes, while their team won Highest Team Score. Other areas enjoyed were Karaoke performances delicious food by Chef Bob and a Motown and Fuller Gordy themed-tiered cake and cupcakes by Sweet Baby Cakes that wowed all.

Many left asking that they bring this remarkably successful event back next year! A few of the attendees’ rave reviews were: “We had more fun than we’ve had in years,” “You titled it Strikefest, but it was also a love fest!” and “I am thankful to have been a part of your Legacy. The energy is sooooo…Powerful.” They were amazed by the many exciting activities, abundance of delicious food awaiting them from the moment they entered until the end and the overall family fun feel energy that resonated.
