If you’re one of a whole bunch of people who are not feeling Jennifer Lopez doing a Motown tribute at the Grammys tonight, Motown OG Smokey Robinson wants you to know that you’re “stupid.”
Yes, he went there and didn’t bite his tongue while saying, either.
“I don’t think anyone who is intelligent is upset,” he told Variety. “I think anyone who is upset is stupid.”
Robinson made the comment to Variety’s Marc Malkin outside Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala on Saturday. The legendary singer/songwriter/producer, who’s also performing in the Motown tribute alongside J.Lo, said Lopez has more than enough credibility “growing up in her Hispanic neighborhood” in the Bronx. But it’s more than that he reminded.
“Motown was music for everybody. Everybody,” he repeated.
“Who’s stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?” he asked.
The 61st Grammy Awards, hosted by Alicia Keys, airs TONIGHT, Sunday, Feb. 10 on CBS.
AN OPEN LETTER TO JESSIE JACKSON: REV, YOU KNOW THE JUSSIE SMOLLETT STORY IS NOT RIGHT
In other JLo news, this past Friday, the singer/actress/dancer, along attended her significant other, retired baseballer Alex Rodrigues, attended L.A. Reid and Hitco Entertainment’s pre-Grammys party. The event was held in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles at a private home.
J.Lo and A-Rod arrived around 10:30 p.m. According to E! News, she wore a sequined, striped crop top and matching high-waisted pants, paired with a fur cover up and a diamond encrusted emerald ring on the middle finger of her left hand.
The two were later spotted sitting on a couch near Larsa Pippen, who came over and hugged Lopez. She chatted for a bit with Pippen as well as with Diplo.
Other celebs spotted at the party included Ashanti, who hung out with Nicole Scherzinger, Tinashe, Swizz Beatz, and David Foster.
