*A racist Iowa woman who admitted to running over a girl with her vehicle because she thought she was “a Mexican” was charged Monday in another hit-and-run involving a child, as well as in a separate hate crime.
Police said all 3 attacks happened in a little over an hour, New York Times reports.
Nicole Marie Poole Franklin told the police she ran over a 14-year-old girl because she thought she was “a Mexican.” She has been charged with attempted murder in that case.

“I don’t remember the impact, I just remember the car coming toward me,” the girl told CNN affiliate KCCI-TV. She added that she had been going to a basketball game. “I didn’t do anything, I’m just a girl just walking to a basketball game.”
Even though the suspected race soldier confessed to mowing the girl down due to her race, authorities are looking at whether it was a hate crime, Clive Police Chief Michael Venema said during a news conference.
“We’re going to present all of that information to the prosecutors and ultimately they will make the determination on what crimes to prosecute,” Venema said.
“There is no place in our community (or any other) for this kind of hatred and violence,” Venema said. “We are committed to supporting the victim and (her) family and working diligently with them to seek justice.”
On Monday, Poole Franklin was hit with another attempted murder charge for a separate hit-and-run case involving a 12-year-old boy who was walking on the sidewalk, the police said.
She later yelled racial epithets at a convenience store clerk and a customer. For that, she was charged with a hate crime, public intoxication and a shoplifting charge of fifth-degree theft.
Poole Franklin is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing December 30.
