*Queen Latifah has a surprise for her fans and music fans in general. She says she’s getting back to her roots and dropping a new music album. Her first in nearly a decade.
We found out because it on Thursday that the queen revealed the info, The Blast reports, when she was asked if there was more music in her future.
Fortunately for music fans, the 49-year-old star’s answer was yes! The actress/singer/rapper/entrepreneur went on to say that new music is on the way, and will drop, “hopefully this year.”
As we alluded to up top, it’ll be her her first album release since 2009’s Persona.

If you’re wondering just what type of stuff she’s looking to release, she mentioned that of course it’ll contain some hip hop, but what she’s really excited about is that it’ll be her opportunity to indulge herself and her fans with what appears to be her favorite, jazz.
And speaking of which, remember, her fifth studio album, The Dana Owens Album – surprised a lot of folks who hadn’t been paying attention to her music tastes, and only though of her as a rapper – because it featured a lot was heavily influenced by jazz, as well as R&B.
The Blast reminds that she “even performed a cover of the classic jazz song, “Lush Life,” for the 1998 movie, “Living Out Loud,” with Danny DeVito and Holly Hunter.”
