YouTube video

*Ya think maybe Gladys Knight is kinda outta the loop as far the issue of  performing at Super Bowl LIII on Feb. 3? Well, maybe. But the bottom line that that’s exactly what she’s got on her schedule.

Knight was asked and said yes to performing the National Anthem ahead of the 2019 Super Bowl.

The seven-time Grammy Award-winner says she’s proud to use her voice to “unite and represent our country” in her hometown of Atlanta.

I am proud to use my voice to unite and represent our country in my hometown of Atlanta,” the 74-year-old Atlanta native said.

She added …

“The NFL recently announced their new social justice platform Inspire Change, and I am honored to be a part of its inaugural year.”

As music legends, Gladys Knight and the Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Their  hits include “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “That’s What Friends Are For.”

Meanwhile, Maroon 5 will be joined by Big Boi, Atlanta-based rapper from Outkast, and Travis Scott during the halftime performance.

Speaking of Travis Scott and Outkast and the other black performers, as we’ve reported, they’ve been catching heat for lending their influence and credibility to the NFL’s highest profile project and money maker which is under fire for blackballing Colin Kaepernick over his protests of police abuse of black people.

With the foregoing in mind, do you think Gladys is going to come under fire as well?

CBS broadcasts this year’s Super Bowl from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Feb. 3.
