*“Game of Thrones” writer George RR Martin has revealed that even he has no idea how the HBO series will end and he’s a bit heartbroken that show will spoil his ending before the final two books are released.

With the final season of GoT set to premiere next month, fan theories on how the epic series will come to an end are wild across the internet. What we do know is that the series is going to flip the script slightly from Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice books.

“I haven’t read the [final-season] scripts and haven’t been able to visit the set because I’ve been working on [The Winds of Winter],” Marton told Entertainment Weekly. “I know some of the things. But there’s a lot of minor-character [arcs] they’ll be coming up with on their own. And, of course, they passed me several years ago. There may be important discrepancies.”

Martin hasn’t finishing writing “The Winds of Winter”, which is slated to be the second-to-last book in the series. But still, he has known the ending of the book series before he even wrote the first page, which he shared with HBO series creators Benioff and Weiss. Their ending will come out before his does.

Naturally, Martin told EW he has “mixed feelings about that,” saying, “Obviously, I wished I finished these books sooner so the show hadn’t gotten ahead of me. I never anticipated that.”

And Benioff and Weiss totally understand his concerns, as they also told EW that they’re not planning to reveal how exactly their version of events differ from the books.

“Now that the show is ahead of the books, it seems the show could ruin the books for people,” Benioff said. “So one thing we’ve talked to George about is that we’re not going to tell people what the differences are, so when those books come out people can experience them fresh.”

But don’t get it twisted, Martin is grateful for the show – even though it has impeded on writing process.

“It’s been an incredible ride. And almost all of it has been great. Obviously, I wished I finished these books sooner so the show hadn’t gotten ahead of me. I never anticipated that.
