*Last night Eddie Murphy fans got a huge reward when the funnyman hosted “Saturday Night Live.” It was his first time in 35 years that he was back on the show as host.
Murphy wasn’t just back, but he came back with guns a-blazin’ so to speak. From the show’s opening, which featured his Bill Cosby impression and included fellow funny guys Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan and Dave Chappelle … to accidentally cursing, Murphy’s return to “SNL” is already being considered an instant classic.
“It’s great to be back here finally hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ for Christmas,” Murphy said in his opening.
“This is the last episode of 2019 but if you’re black, this is the first episode since I left back in 1984,” he told the audience.
His hilarious opening monologue also included jibes at his family, and he even went in on Kevin Hart.
“So much has changed. I actually just had a new baby about a year ago,” he recalled. “That means I have ten kids now, eleven if you count Kevin Hart.”
After Hart, Murphy turned his attention to Bill Cosby.
“If you had told me 30 years ago, that I would be this boring, stay-at-home house dad and Bill Cosby would be in jail, even I wouldn’t have took that bet,” he said to laughter.

But wait there’ more from Murphy’s big night. Here’s a look via Urban Hollywood 411:
Eddie Murphy returned to Saturday Night Live this weekend and brought back his beloved “Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood” sketch.
In the parody of children’s show Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Murphy walked into his old dilapidated apartment and started singing about how much the neighborhood had changed since we last saw Mister Robinson.
“I was gone for a bit, but now I’m alright. My neighbors was all black, but now they’re white,” he sang. “The white people came and changed everything, but I am still your neighbor.”
And yes, on top of all that, Murphy also did his beloved Gumby and Velvet Jones impressions:

As we said up top, Eddie Murphy’s return to “SNL” for the first time since 1984 is already being seen as classic, if not iconic. Here some of the reaction from social media:
Oh man, @nbcsnl is the best it has been in ages. Can’t stop laughing. Eddie Murphy has everyone on tilt in the best possible way.

#SNL is having one of its best episodes in the last decade thanks to #EddieMurphy. Perhaps he’s available on a more permanent basis? #TheEddiesance

I haven’t watched @nbcsnl since #EddieMurphy left in 1984. It is great to see him and @lizzo on the same show.

This weekend has brought a new Star Wars movie, a tribute to Stan Lee on ABC, and Eddie Murphy hosting SNL. I’m in retro heaven.

Hold up! Wait a minute. We can’t forget about Lizzo. She was on the show, too. One of her songs (“Good as Hell”) featured singer/rapper in a tuxedo-like outfit. As you can see, the entire back half of the outfit is transparent while twerking … a nod to the whole Lakers controversy where she twerked at the game and her butt was exposed.
