*John Legend is still catching heat for rerecording “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” after feminists complained that the original lyrics promotes rape.
Legend joined creative forces with Kelly Clarkson to record a rendition of the Oscar-winning holiday classic, which was written in 1944 by Frank Loesser. The song has been performed by a slew of singers over the decades, including Dean Martin, Idina Menzel, and Lady Gaga.
However, the snowflake collective decided last year that the song was “no longer appropriate,” so it was banned from some radio stations. Legend decided to team with “Insecure” actress/writer Natasha Rothwell to tweak the lyrics, making the woman in the song more in control of the situation.

If ‘Saint’ John Legend’s so worried about inappropriate song lyrics, why doesn’t he leave Baby It’s Cold Outside alone & rewrite all the far more sexist and misogynist filth spewed by his rapper friends?https://t.co/m9TRYL7xUD pic.twitter.com/z8q3jYlMRQ— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) November 4, 2019
In the original song, many listeners claim the lyrics reference date rape: “I ought to say no, no, no, sir / “Mind if I move in closer?” and “Say, what’s in this drink? / No cabs to be had out there.”
In the new version, Clarkson sings, “I’ve got to go away,” and Legend responds, “I can call you a ride.”
Later, in the lyrics, “What will my friends think? / I think they should rejoice,” and “If I have one more drink? / “It’s your body, and your choice.”
But many are not feeling this new politically correct version.
“To change an innocent lyric, to what is it, ‘Your mind and your body?’ What the hell are you on? That’s ridiculous,” “The Talk” host Sharon Osbourne said on the show Monday (Nov. 4). “I have to tell you, I love John Legend. I love John Legend’s wife, his family. He’s an amazing artist that I really respect. Why do you do this? That’s not right.”
Dean Martin’s daughter, Deana Martin, revealed on “Good Morning Britain” that she also ain’t feeling Legend’s version.
“You do not change the lyrics to the song,” she said Monday. “He’s made it more sexual with those words that he has just said. … He’s stealing the thunder from Frank Loesser’s song and from my dad. He should write his own song if he doesn’t like this one, but don’t change the lyrics. It’s a classic, perfect song.”
Meanwhile, Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter, “If ‘Saint’ John Legend’s so worried about inappropriate song lyrics, why doesn’t he leave Baby It’s Cold Outside alone & rewrite all the far more sexist and misogynist filth spewed by his rapper friends?”
