Colin Kaepernic Should Replace Injured Cam Newton Says Veteran NFLer

*If you haven’t heard, the Carolina Panthers have a quarterback problem on their hands.

In a pre-season game Thursday night, Cam Newton suffered a left foot injury that was later diagnosed as a mid-foot sprain. What was initially not thought to all that serious has now been determined to be just that: serious.  In fact, it’s serious enough that Newton, a former NFL MVP, probably won’t be able to start the season in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams on Sep. 8.

There may be no need to worry, however. You see, the Panthers just might have a replacement for Newton … if safety Eric Reid has his way., but mind you, it’s controversial as hell … for some. Here it is. According to Heavy.com, the veteran defensive back suggested that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick — who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016 — start for Carolina in place of the injured Newton.

Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that Panthers general manager Marty Hurney was “cautiously optimistic” regarding Newton’s playing status for Week 1.

Something tells us Hurney is wishing and hoping like crazy that Newton is somehow miraculously healed so he won’t have to even entertain the idea of putting Kaepernick on the roster.

Yes, it’s an interesting development, isn’t it? Get the rest of the story at Heavy.com.
