Aretha Franklin’s Newly Renovated Michigan Mansion Gets Relisted for $1.2M

Aretha Franklin

*Aretha Franklin’s newly renovated estate in Bloomfield Township, Michigan has been relisted for a cool $1.2 million.

The Queen of Soul, who passed away last year at the age of 76, had not lived in on the property for 15 years. But the real estate company bills it as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to live in the home once owned by the icon singer.

Shortly after Franklin died from pancreatic cancer, her suburban mansion hit the market for $800,000. The 4,100 square feet house, built in 1990, features:

  • Five bedrooms
  • Six bathrooms
  • Overlooks a common pool and two ponds
  • Courtyard entrance with circular drive
  • Two-story marble foyer with crystal chandelier, opens to two-story great room with granite fireplace
  • Wet bar
  • Gourmet kitchen

“This house is one of her beautiful houses that she lived in,” says listing agent Michael Hermiz. “It’s a beautiful home. It is in turn-key, move-in condition and tastefully done.”

According to realtor.com, the red piano from the entertainer’s Detroit home has been moved into the space. Additionally, a portrait of the performer now greets visitors.

The updated gourmet kitchen has granite and marble floors, a huge island and a breakfast nook. Along with a formal dining room, there’s also a library with French doors. A main-floor master suite offers wood floors, a private deck, huge closets and a marble bath. The lower level includes a finished walkout family room with a guest suite.

After her death, Franklin’s family members and attorneys believed she left no will. Three handwritten wills were later discovered (see below) but their legal status is currently under dispute in probate court.
