*Aretha Franklin‘s estate apparently has some money issues. It’s seeking the court’s permission to put up some of its land for sale in order to raise funds to pay off debt it owes.
The amount of the debt the late singer’s estate owes in $5.2 million. The plan, if the court allows it, is to sell off a vacant lot Franklin owns in Bloomfield, Michigan
Franklin purchased the 1.05 acre lot several years ago; the estate is offering it for $1.4 million. According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the price tag will also get the buyer a house that’s being built on the land as well.

The estate notes that they want to sell off the property to liquidate estate assets and to eliminate unnecessary estate expenses. They also claim the value of the remaining personal property is undetermined at this time.
The court docs reveal the estate paid off a chunk of the $6.3 million the IRS said they were owed originally.
They are asking the judge to sign off on the sale ASAP.
In other Aretha Franklin news concerning her estate, it has fired back at Wendy Williams for the “irresponsible” and “mocking” remarks the talk-show host made on her show last week about the upcoming “Amazing Grace” documentary.
“Amazing Grace” is a 90-minute documentary featuring footage captured in January 1972 at New Temple Missionary Baptist in Los Angeles, where Franklin was joined by Rev. James Cleveland and his choir for two days of gospel sessions. Warner Bros. reportedly wanted a documentary to chronicle her best-selling gospel album.
Spike Lee has described it as “One of the greatest concerts ever put to film.” But Wendy has questioned the doc’s visual quality, Franklin’s natural hair and the true motives behind the film’s release.
The family fired back in a statement saying, “1972 was the era of Black Power and Black Is Beautiful. In her short natural hair and simple makeup, Ms. Franklin was in step with the times and appropriate to the occasion. There was no ‘showgirl glamor,’ no ‘pressed hair’ and no ‘eyelashes’ – the lack of which Williams ridiculed on her program. The simplicity of the presentation gives ‘Amazing Grace’ its power.”
