*Feeling forgotten about and neglected on Mother’s Day, three best friends travel to New York City unannounced to reconnect with their adult sons in Netflix’s original and hilarious romantic comedy “Otherhood” starring Angela Bassett, Patricia Arquette, and Felicity Huffman.
Actors Jake Hoffman, Jake Lacy, Sinqua Walls, Heidi Gardner, and Molly Bernard round out the cast.
“At this stage, it doesn’t feel like motherhood, it feels like otherhood,” Arquette’s Gillian tells Carol (Bassett) and Helen (Huffman).
The film is written and directed by the writer/executive director of “Sex and the City,” Cindy Chupack which should tell you a lot about the style of humor and candor among the A-list stars.
Based off the novel by William Sutcliffe, the rom-com offers a refreshing take on the empty-nester life by taking us on a journey in the lives of Jillian, Carol and Helen, three suburban moms, as they cope with their son’s independence by finding purpose in their own lives beyond marriage and motherhood. Expect to laugh, smile and maybe shed a tear watching the women rediscover themselves in the Big Apple.

EURweb associate Anasia Obioha recently sat down with Bassett and Arquette who along with Huffman executive produced the film. They shared their thoughts on working with each other and how being mothers in real life drew them to the film.
Huffman, who pled guilty in a federal court in May to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud after reportedly paying $15,000 to a fake charity in order to set up a cheating scheme when her daughter took the SATs, will be sentenced on Sept. 13. Prosecutors recommended she receive a four-month prison term.
“Otherhood” will be in select theaters and on Netflix starting Aug. 2.
