5 Things You Need for the Perfect Proposal

*In 2018, there were over 61 million married couples in the United States. If you’re wanting to join them, the first thing you need to do is propose.

But before you get down on one knee, there are five things you need to ensure you provide the perfect proposal for your sweetheart.

Keep reading to find out what you need to have if you want her answer to be a resounding “Yes!”

  1. The Blessing

If you think getting her father’s blessing is old-fashioned, it is. But that doesn’t make it any less important of a step to take.

It can be scary, but it’s crucial to ensure you have her family’s support before you ask your girl to marry you. Just let her parents know how you feel about her and that you are prepared to take care of her for the rest of her life.

  1. The Ring (and the ROCK!)

This one is obvious, but don’t forget to have the engagement ring ready far in advance. If you run into sizing or ordering issues, you could have to keep pushing your plans back, so get this taken care of as soon as possible!

Make sure you find a ring that matches your woman’s style and preferences. Most girls will want something unique, so consider getting something like emerald cut diamonds to catch her eye.

  1. The Timing

Avoid anniversaries of any deaths of close friends or relatives that could put a damper on the date. You don’t want her dwelling on the loss of her grandmother when you ask her to marry you!

If she has recently lost an important relative, the first holiday without them will probably also be a bad time to ask. Instead, pick a date you can have all to yourselves with only memories of the proposal attached to it.

  1. The Location

Where you propose can either put your girl into a romantic mood or make her feel pressured and nervous. Consider her personality before pulling off a big, dramatic public proposal.

Restaurant proposals are popular because they’re a little more intimate than basketball games plus you can get help from the staff to set up the perfect environment for both of you.

  1. The Plan

Don’t go into the proposal without a plan of how you’re going to propose. Practice in the mirror or even with friends to make sure you’re ready.

It’s completely normal to be nervous when proposing. However, if you practice what you’re going to say beforehand, it can take some of the guesswork out of it and will make it easier.

You’ll also want to plan what part of the evening you’re going to pop the question.

If during dinner, you’ll typically want to wait until after you eat. For anywhere else, you’ll want to make sure it’s a quiet moment where you can have her full attention and there’s no chance of her being distracted.

What Comes After the Proposal?

Now you know the five things you need to pull off the picture-perfect proposal. As you can see, there are plenty of ways you can make it memorable and unique to your relationship.
