Movita Johnson-Harrell“Johnson-Harrell used MECA finances for years to buy expensive trips, clothing, to pay overdue utilities and to fund past-due car payments,” Shapiro said, claiming Johnson-Harrell stole more than $500,000 in the last decade. “Her theft knew no bounds.”

Shapiro said she used the nonprofit she founded in 2006, Motivation Education and Consultation Associates, as a “cash account” for years. The organization was at the center of the investigation into the lawmaker last year.

Johnson-Harrell made history as the first Muslim woman elected to the Pennsylvania state legislature. Her legacy has now been decimated after pleading guilty to charges of perjury, record-tampering, and embezzling over $500,000 in Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security disability funds, and donations to her nonprofit facility, NBC Philadelphia reports.

Motivation Education and Consultation Associates was established to serve the low-income, mentally ill, and drug-addicts in Johnson-Harrell‘s predominantly Black district.

Johnson-Harrell used the funds she allegedly embezzled to purchase “fox furs, trips to Mexico, to make payments on a Porsche, to pay delinquent utility bills, to cover her granddaughter’s private school tuition, and even to fund her political campaign,” the report states.

According to LifeSite, on her private social media page, she acknowledged her legal situation, saying, “My life is one of service. If I have to suffer persecution to save one from the grave then God’s will, not mine be done.”
