‘Zombieland: Double Tap’ Dir. Ruben Fleischer on New Breed of Zombies & More Comedy in Upcoming Sequel

*Just in time for its ten-year anniversary, the highly-anticipated spoof “Zombieland” returns with the sequel “Zombieland: Double Tap” on October 18.

In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, four slayers, living in the White House, must face off against zombies that have evolved, as well as some new human survivors.

EURweb sat down with “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer to get the details about what to expect from sequel of the horror/comedy and learned that while cast members Woody Harrleson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone return as survivors in a world that is now 10 years post-apocalypse, Fleischer says moviegoers can also expect to see several new faces joining the gang including Luke Wilson, Zoey Deutch who plays the hilariously ditzy Madison, Rosario Dawson, and Thomas Middleditch.

Fleischer also promises more action sequences, visual effects, comedy and a new breed of zombies that are more resilient and threatening to the survivors as they journey across the country in an effort to rescue one of their own.

“The other thing that has happened in our world in the ten years is that the zombies have kind of evolved in different ways,” said Fleischer. “One of the ways that they have evolved is that there is a new species called the T-800s that are faster, stronger and harder to kill.”

Fleischer, who also recently directed the film Venom, hinted at “something special” for fans who stick around until the end of the film.

“Zombieland” follows a geeky college kid making his way through the zombie apocalypse, meeting three strangers along the way and together taking an extended road trip in an attempt to find refuge from zombies. Released in 2009, it was a critical and commercial success. The movie brought in a solid $102 million take at the global box office, working from a middling budget of $23 million.
