*It’s long been proven that diversity isn’t just about being fair – it’s good business. In fact, diversity of thought is at the heart of success in understanding consumers. This is even more apparent in the tech industry, were various studies show early adopters of technology are multicultural.

From Silicon Valley to right here in Atlanta, the question is forming: what needs to be done to push the needle of diversity a little farther? Join UrbanGeekz on April 26th for their signature event UG Tech Talkz: Where Media Diversity Meets Tech, where like-minds of the Atlanta tech ecosystem will mix and mingle and discuss the many facets of having a seat at the tech table.

Hosted in Atlanta Tech Village, the intimate evening aims to cultivate a safe space for the inspired discussion of Diversity in Tech and to celebrate those who have successfully navigated their chosen tech and media careers with diversity and innovation at the forefront of their career paths. In addition to networking face-to-face, invited guests will also be given access to Mixle, an app that will allow attendees to create professional connections in real time.

Across the board, leaders in tech and media believe the representation of Black and brown talent is essential to the elevation of diversity. “Globally, we are currently going through a culture shift that hasn’t occurred in the US since the late 60s (Black Panther Party, Stonewall Riots, The Vietnam War, etc.),” says Jeffrey D. Martín President, CEO of honorCode and community partner for #UGTechTalkz. “Looking at the US’s history and what happens when stories aren’t told, if we do not celebrate Black and Latinx innovators now, we won’t have the momentum needed for 2042 when the bulk of our country will be Black and Latinx. Representation matters and media plays a vital role in getting our narratives out there to the masses.”

The distinguished conference will launch with a catered red carpet reception that will lead excited guests into a high-powered leadership panel on diversity, tech, and media moderated by 11 Alive’s Anchor and Reporter, Natisha Lance. Panelists comprise Burunda Prince-Jones Managing Director, The Farm accelerator; Christian Zimmerman, Co-Founder & CEO of Qoins; Candace Mitchell, Co-founder/CEO of Techturized Inc.; and Amari Ruff, CEO at Sudu.

Quinetha Frasier, CEO of Social Impact Technology, will moderate a fireside chat with CEO of UrbanGeekz, Kunbi Tinuoye, where she will share her insightful vision for UG and what she sees for the future of Blacks and browns in technology-based careers. Tinuoye has created an award-winning platform for promoting diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math-related industries and from the looks of it, she has many more ideas up her sleeve.

CEO of UrbanGeekz, Kunbi Tinuoye has spoken in past interviews of the overall lack of coverage in tech media and wants to give those entrepreneurs a space to be heard.  “Mainstream technology blogs also don’t pay enough attention to the growing multicultural market, so I launched UrbanGeekz to fill a much-needed gap in the marketplace.”

Sponsors for UG Tech Talkz comprise SalesLoft, Kompass, CalendlyGeekz Watch, HonorCode, MHR InternationalBevisible Latinx, and Social Impact Advisor.
