*On Thursday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Wendy Williams opened up about just how challenging it was for her to take a health-related hiatus from her daytime talk show.
“I have to make an income! Three weeks and a half, that’s a lot to be off of your show, do you know what I mean?” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “And people are so fickle, the audience, you never know if they’re going to show the love when you get back or whether they’re going to switch the channel to watching another.”
Williams took time off to deal with her hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease, noting, “Everything is fine, but you have to take some time when you need the time. Ten years of being on TV, I’d never taken a sick day.”

During her conversation with Fallon, Williams touched on her path to “The Wendy Williams Show,” saying it’s her dream gig.
“I’m where I’m supposed to be. In that purple chair, by myself, yip yapping,” she quipped. “I am, I didn’t fall into it, you know, I wanted to be a newscaster or a radio broadcaster since I was six years old. When I went to college, I majored in communications. When I touched a microphone, I fell in love.”
The outspoken personality also shared the story of how she used to make shady announcements at her brother’s Little League games as a kid.
“I was a fan for the mic I guess back then. I don’t know anything about sports, but when they was a lull in the game… ‘Mrs. Schwartz has dropped her keys because she’s messing around with Jimmy’s father in the back of the Saab across the parking lot.’ I’m the one with the big mouth!” she said.
Williams then gushed about her almost 10 years on TV, saying, “I make a lot of jokes about being on and all but mostly because I can’t believe that a girl from Jersey got the brass ring.”
