*Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish has inked a two-year, first-look deal with HBO, and the announcement follows reports that she has been named the new spokesperson for Groupon.
Variety reports that her deal with HBO means the premiere cabler “will get first dibs on any show concepts Haddish comes up with.” Speculation is already stirring about who Haddish might bring along to feature in a new project.
As she told the NYFCC in her awards speech, “It’s been so many years when nobody saw me. You know, when you’re a little kid, going through the system, doing all this—you wonder, ‘Does anyone even know I’m alive?’”
Adding, “There’s so many people like me that you guys don’t know about,” Haddish added. “But they coming, ’cause I’ll keep the fucking door open.”
In related news, Deadline reports that Tuesday’s Season 5 premiere of “Drunk History” with Tiffany Haddish was a ratings winner for Comedy Central. The episode, “Heroines,” features narration by Haddish, Paget Brewster, and Amber Ruffin, and reenactments by Busy Philipps, Evan Rachel Wood, and Mandy Moore.
Meanwhile, Haddish’s other upcoming projects include a starring role in New Line’s “The Kitchen,” and she also will star and serve as an executive producer in Universal’s “The Temp.” She also has “Limited Partners” in development with Paramount which she will star in and serve as an EP on the project as well, and recently wrapped production on “The Oath,” per Deadline.
The “Girls Trip” star recently garnered a New York Film Critics Circle award for best-supporting actress and her collection of personal essays, “The Last Black Unicorn”, also landed on the New York Times best-seller list. Haddish will continue serving up her Black Girl Magic via her 2018 stand-up tour.
She is also tapped to receive the Rising Star Award at the 2018 American Black Film Festival Honors.
