TAYO Fatunla’s OUR ROOTS – Makers of History on Two Continents

OUR ROOTS - Randolph - Achebe - EURWEB

*In the third week of Black History Month, OUR ROOTS‘ spotlight falls on a great African American union organiser and a great African author of the most widely read African novel ever.

When at first this feature was created, I was asked if I could sustain this educational feature and my answer to the question was that, as long as there is a Black race, there will be history made.

I knew I was on to something special when a parent, so many years back, showed me a scrapbook collection of newspaper cuttings of my OUR ROOTS cartoons from the UK’s Voice newspaper for her son. The paper is where this cartoon strip first began.

The format caught the attention of the editor then, Steve Pope. I remember posting the initial ideas to him from Nigeria. In the process of researching, reading and drawing, I have also educated and informed myself through the years about black history of Black people in the diaspora.
