*SZA was back at her old high school in New Jersey on Monday to give the current students there some words of wisdom.

The R&B star, real name Solana Imani Rowe, delivered the graduation speech at Columbia High School in Maplewood, where she received her diploma in 2008.

The 27-year-old was also voted into the school’s hall of fame and performed her hit “The Weekend,” despite her current battle with vocal cord issues.

In her speech SZA urged, “Design your own world right now,” before revealing that when she graduated she refused to attend prom because she wasn’t popular enough to get a date.

“It starts with trusting yourself, even if people are telling you you’re too young to trust yourself,” she added, before telling the grads to: “find the details and the inner workings of yourself.”

She also gave a shout out to her favorite art teacher and explained how her “daydreaming” had fueled her journey.

SZA’s appearance at her alma mater, which counts Lauryn Hill among its alumni, came after she was pulled from the line-up of the TDE Championship Tour due to an injury to her vocal cords.

SZA told fans she had been taking steroids to ensure she could perform and after skipping gigs, returned to the stage in New York last Tuesday. However, after the gig she expressed fears in since-deleted tweets that she had “permanently injured” her voice.
