Prosecutor Confirms Charlamagne tha God’s Rape Case Won’t Be Reopened

*Jessica Reid, the woman who accused Charlamagne Tha God (born Lenard Larry McKelvey) of rape in 2001 when she was 15, is desperately seeking to reopen a criminal case against him.

But on Thursday (July 12), South Carolina Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson issued a statement saying the dismissed rape charge against McKelvey will not be resurrected and the law presumes him “innocent of the dismissed allegation.”

“The plea was negotiated because the alleged victim in the matter did not cooperate with the prosecutor. The prosecutor made this agreement because of the victim’s absence and the lack of evidence available at the time. While the tools and technology of justice have evolved, in cases involving personal violence, the State must have the witness to prosecute. Too often, the key witness will not come forward in support of criminal prosecution. Trying a tough case is no problem; trying an impossible case is not ethical.”

Charlamagne was accused of drugging and raping 15-year-old Jessica Reid at a party in 2001. He was 22-years-old at the time. Reid recently told The Blast that she wanted the case reopened so she could get closure. In the same story, her mother revealed that she stopped Jessica from cooperating in the case because she didn’t want her to suffer.

Charlamagne was given three years probation in the case after he pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Breakfast Club host is facing pressure over the 17-year-old rape allegation with a new petition demanding his firing from the popular iHeartMedia radio show.

Charlamagne’s lawyers told TMZ: “More than seventeen years ago, Charlamagne was accused of a sexual assault. He never had sexual relations or any physical contact with the accuser and even provided DNA to prove it.”

If you are a victim of sexual assault, please call the Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673.

Meanwhile, a petition has been started demanding the firing of Charlamagne from “The Breakfast Club.”
