*Kym Whitley has voiced support for Mo’Nique in her efforts to boycott Netflix over racial and gender pay disparities, but worries about how her tactics will affect other black women in comedy.

“I love the fact that the conversation is there. It’s been there, she ain’t been the first. The conversation’s there. I just feel like her tactics are wrong,” Whitley told Essence’s Yes, Girl! podcast. “I believe she can go about it a different way, but sometimes you gotta make a lot of noise to get people to notice. My fear is that her tactics might hurt us or hurt the fight.”

Back in January, Mo’Nique called on fans to boycott the streaming giant after they offered her less money than Amy Schumer, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle for a stand-up special. “I am asking that you stand with me and boycott Netflix for gender bias and color bias,” she said in a video shared to Instagram.

Whitley says she fears Mo’Nique’s antagonism may affect other black female comedians who find themselves at the negotiating table. Still, Whitley supports Mo’Nique in her fight. “Other female comedians, we secretly applaud her…She’s very smart, she’s very talented, you want her to win. I want her to win.”
