*Attorney Antonio Moore, Political Commentator Yvette Carnell, and relationship expert Zo Williams discuss the statements Issa Rae creator of HBO show Insecure made on Black relationship in her 2015 book.

Including this line: Educated Black women what better intellectual match for you than an Asian man? And I’m not talking about Filipino’s, they’re like the Blacks of Asians.”

They delve into Rae’s socioeconomic background, the dangers of her comments, and how this attaches to a larger deep analysis of the current state of the black community.

The three also discuss the recent article in Madame Noire titled “Why I Stopped Dating Black American Men When I Decided I Was Ready For Marriage”. In the article the author appears to lay out a case based on prejudice that American black males are not good mates for black or west African women.

Excerpt: One day my therapist forced me to make a list of the things I wanted in a husband. And as we reviewed my list, one thing became clear, and that was that I had no business dating Black American men. The likelihood that we would waste each other’s time was almost built into the equation. Initially, I felt bad. Almost like I was turning my back on them if I agreed with these findings. Surely, I could mold a potential mate into the guy I wanted, right? We could get into couple’s therapy and the whole nine. If I wanted to make it work despite what the evidence stated, I could. And I wasn’t wrong, but marriage is challenging enough without marrying a project.
